It’s Official, our 2012, 33rd Annual MFDA Scholarship Drive Has Begun, and We Desperately Need Your Help this year during this global recession!  Education is key to solving global challenges.

We thank each of you who have participated in the MFDA Scholarship Drive in the past and now sincerely request your cooperation and continued support to achieve our goals for 2012.

As you well know, one of the biggest financial responsibilities parents face is paying for their child’s college education.  Each year your MFDA directly solicits contributions for the MFDA Scholarship Fund.  These funds are combined with monies raised through other association activities to provide needed scholarship opportunities for your company’s employees and their children. Clearly, awarding scholarships for higher education to deserving students is a worthy cause that directly affects the future for us all.  We believe that all of our members share this sentiment.

This is the way we need you to partake in this important endeavor:

  1. Let your employees know of this available “company sponsored scholarship. (i.e. Post the enclosed “Attention Employees! Notice and scholarship application)

  2. Help identify potential candidates for scholarship awards. (Talk to your employees about this benefit.  We’re sure they will appreciate your concern.)

  3. Remind your candidates to send in their signed and completed applications via mail or courier to the MFDA by the 2012 deadline.

  4. Be sure to make a company sponsored or personal charitable scholarship contribution to the MFDA to show your support. (form attached)

Please Be As Generous As Possible With Your Donation!  Each year, the MFDA strives to help a greater number of applicants.  This year is no exception.  Each and every contribution is vital and especially appreciated in this profound economic climate.

In 2011, with your help, your MFDA awarded $20,000 in scholarships to 20 worthy students of MFDA member companies. Help young adults and your employees (their parents) meet the difficult challenges ahead by making this needed investment in their future.  It's a very wise and rewarding decision!

We thank you in advance for your generous support and assistance with this 32nd Annual MFDA Scholarship Fund Drive.  We would be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding this program. Scholarship awards will be presented at the 2012 awards meeting on June 8.

Sincerely,

MFDA Scholarship Committee:

Ed Werner, Jhonna Van Dunk, Bill Lang, Dave Schuster, Keith Monteleone, Jay Minichino, Dennis Shanahan and Mike Smith.

MFDA Scholarship Program

I. Reasons for Scholarship

  • Skyrocketing costs of higher education.

  • In an increasingly hi-tech world, our industry and our country need more top-flight college graduates. The MFDA Board, through our Scholarship Fund, will do whatever is possible to see that college bound students are helped with much needed funds.

  • Solid benefit to employees of member companies.

II. Funding

  • Donations from individual member companies.

  • Matching funds from the MFDA treasury with an agreed upon maximum cap.

III. Criteria

  • Children of employees of member companies, both distributor and associate, entering their freshman year of college. Those not eligible to receive scholarships include children of parents who are company officers or general managers.

  • Employees of member companies, not including officers or general managers, working at least 20 hours per week and taking six credits from an accredited college or university.

  • Scholarships are awarded by a combination of grades and needs.

  • Checks go to scholarship winners, rather than the college.

  • Applicants must submit proof of admission to a four-year or two-year accredited college or university. Applicants must be taking a minimum of six credits per semester.
